CFRE NEWS

WHAT’S NEW WITH CFRE INTERNATIONAL AND WHAT’S HAPPENING FOR NEAHP MEMBERS

CFRE INTERNATIONAL

Exciting things are happening at CFRE International.  Here are a few highlights.

1). In January 2010, a new requirement was introduced that 50% of reported continuing education activities needed to be from CFRE Approved Continuing Educational Providers.  Many candidates indicated that meeting this threshold was difficult due to the educational offerings available in their region.  In response, the CFRE Board decided to defer the implementation of the 50% CFRE Approved Provider requirement.  Based on further evaluation and continued candidate feedback, the Board since decided to discontinue the 50% policy going forward.

2). CFRE now recognizes half-time employment to meet eligibility requirements.  In response to feedback from current and prospective CFRE’s, the CFRE Board has voted to allow part-time (half-time) employment to be documented in the Professional Practice category on the application for the purpose of initial certification and recertification.  The change in policy was made in consideration of the changing employment landscape in many regions, and after conducting research on the employment requirements at several international certification programs.  Please see the cfre.org web site for the Policy on Eligibility for the CFRE Credential and the Policy for Eligibility for Recertification for the CFRE.

3). Program Numbers from 2010

  • 364 new CFRE certificants
  • 5,385 total CFRE certificants
  • Certificants (68% female and 32% male)
  • 25% of the certificants work for a health organization

4). During the past year CFRE International has gone through a major relocation of its offices.  There is now more space so this will be quite beneficial, but the move also put the staff quite behind in their work.  In addition, there were some vacant positions so this also put the CFRE office behind in its work.  The chairman of the Board of CFRE International shared that the Board is aware that the CFRE office has been behind in getting back to CFREs and others regarding questions, educational trackers, etc.  The staff and the Board are working on this because customer service is very important.  If you have been waiting for information from CFRE International, please contact your NEAHP representative on the CFRE Advisory Committee.  (Linda Dodge:  717-355-6215)
